Welcome!

This is a humorous and sarcastic blog written by a paralegal in a mid-sized law firm in a mid-tier market. The goal is to share some of the pitfalls and foibles encountered in my own day-to-day experiences. Feel free to contact me at aparalegalslife@gmail.com with comments. Complaints, not so much :)

By The Skin Of My Teeth

Lately I have been reflecting on the past, and it struck me how many mistakes I've made, yet managed to somehow avoid getting in serious trouble.  Usually by speaking before thinking.

In no particular order, here's a few things I've said to attorneys that in context should have gotten me fired, but somehow didn't:

"I've been doing this since you were in High School, so go the hell away now and let me fix your mistakes."

"How did you ever graduate High School, much less pass the Bar Exam?"  (Even worse, this was over the phone to opposing counsel.  Fortunately, everyone in town hates her guts so I was cut some slack.)

"Shut up, go away and come back when you're done being a dick."

My worst moment didn't even involve words, just a gutteral noise as I hurled a 3-inch binder of Medical Records at a retreating associate.  (He did something quite unethical and knew I could sic the Disciplinary Committee on him if he tried to report me.)

Wow! Just wow. Reflection can be a great antidote.
