After discussing the issue with a number of Paralegals, it seems like most of us have settled on a few simple options to retire. Mostly because we can't count on social security to exist when we retire, and most law firms offer 401k's instead of pensions, and the
matching funds discretionary contributions typically suck compared to other employers.
Anyway, here's the list:
1. Marry well. Includes either staying married or divorcing and getting alimony.
2. Win the lottery.
3. Die of stress before reaching retirement age.
Feel free to add anything I may have missed in the comments, but this seems to cover most of what's available.

The third choice on the list is hilarious! Maybe adding ‘planning retirement carefully’ to the list would be a smart move. If you don’t like the 401k plan, there are other ways to invest and save up money, like through the IRA and IRA Roth. If you do things perfectly, you can possibly live the retirement life of your dreams – maybe you can settle down somewhere in the tropics, sipping piña coladas with those little umbrellas on a sunny beach every afternoon.
