Welcome!

This is a humorous and sarcastic blog written by a paralegal in a mid-sized law firm in a mid-tier market. The goal is to share some of the pitfalls and foibles encountered in my own day-to-day experiences. Feel free to contact me at aparalegalslife@gmail.com with comments. Complaints, not so much :)

Holidays, and the havoc they wreak

Longtime readers are familiar with my ongoing struggle with Alcoholism.  The holiday season, from mid-November through early January, is one of the most difficult for me to get through.

Not only do we have to put up with the usual day-to-day stress in our professional and personal lives, but all the added issues that the various end-of-year holidays bring up.

There's the constant temptations of holiday parties, many with open bars.  I'm up to 5 already in the next few weeks, between firm events I have to attend, important clients we need to keep happy, and critical vendors we must maintain good relations with.

Then there's the kicker:  Seasonal Affective Disorder, which I've suffered from during the holiday season ever since childhood, and stampedes through one side of the family.  It kicks in the first time I hear one of those ubiquitous holiday songs, and lasts until sometime in early January.  Antidepressants take the edge off sometimes, but not entirely.

Take a warning from one who knows (me):  Be careful this time of year.  Our occupation has a high rate of people with alcohol/substance abuse problems, and they really do sneak up on you.
