Settled into my position, developing a good working relationship with the attorneys and other staff. But as the year went on, UnManager and I continued to have a near-feud about how to do my job. Which is strange, because UM has never done my job and has no idea what it entails.
This has now reached the point of gangland-style vendetta. UM blocked my raise and bonus this year, over the objections of the attorneys. So after a year of busting my ass the firm is allowing one person to take a giant, steaming shit on all my hard work and sacrifices. While the most useless person in our office, UM, takes home a 5-figure bonus on top of a 6-figure salary.
Go ahead, ask why I'm in a bad mood all the time. I dare you.

believe me I understand. there is someone where I am who sounds exactly the same. they must be related. let's hope for the both of us next year will be better!
Ouch! Oh, Grumpy I'm so sorry to hear that. I got no bonus this year because I didn't "bill enough" (I've already put in notice - this job was never going to work out) but at my last firm, the attorneys had a lot more leverage and our local HR had nothing to do with our raises - those were set by the executive committee. From other posts, you seem to be a firm with multiple offices. If the firm has an ombudsman, I think you have good case against UM.
Happy New Year! One day at a time. :-)
Ah, the joy of working in the litigation group at a firm whose primary practice areas are year-end driven - I'm off to work bright and early New Year's Eve.
Sorry to hear about the job difficulties. Here's to hoping the next one works out better.
